this calculator has been amended to reflect the latest Goverment price increase to the Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT) as of April 1st 2024, now at £217.85 per metric tonne.

With the packaging introduced in the UK at the start of April 2022, converters are using increasing quantities of recycled material to meet the 30% recycled content threshold and avoid the tax.

What you need to know.
- The packaging tax came into effect on the 1st April, 2022.
- It applies to plastic packaging containing less than 30% recycled material.
- A business is exempt if they import less than 10 tonnes of plastic packaging a year.
- The tax is calculated at a rate of £217.85 per tonne

If you expect to import into the UK or manufacture in the UK 10 tonnes or more of finished plastic packaging components in the next 30 days – you may need to register here for the tax.
