The UBQ™ Process

UBQ™ has developed a revolutionary solution that converts Residual Municipal Solid Waste (RMSW) that is destined for landfills into patented UBQ™ material.

Through a proprietary process, the mixed waste stream – containing organic elements like food waste, garden trimmings, paper, cardboard, diapers, dirty plastics, and packaging materials – is converted into an entirely homogeneous composite material (UBQ™) that can be utilized by industry.

UBQ™ is a thermoplastic and climate positive material, that can be used to make every day durable end-products, more sustainable and with a reduced carbon footprint. It can substitute plastics, minerals and wood in thousands of different applications.

The graphic above shows more details about the net carbon footprint of UBQ™ tablets as calculated by ERM.

A pioneering climate-positive material, available today.

Leveraging waste as a feedstock: For every ton of UBQ™ tablets produced, 1.5 tons of waste are recovered, and a net total of up to 1.02 tons of CO2eq is removed from the atmosphere.

Today, more than 2 billion tons of waste are produced every year. Considering the staggering volumes, humanity needs to turn waste into a resource, beyond mere “energy reclamation,” which also has negative environmental impacts.

The production of UBQ™ material uses household waste, including all organics, as its primary feedstock, diverting it from landfills and incinerators and reducing emissions. The organic content, such as food and garden waste, captures the biogenic carbon from the atmosphere as they grow. This biogenic content is then stored in UBQ™ material for the lifetime of the product instead of being released into the environment.

UBQ™ material stands apart by storing more carbon than is emitted in its production, yielding a negative net cradle-to-gate carbon footprint, which is far lower than common oil-based polymers.
