Waterhaul - Circular Recovery in Action

Plastribution has strengthened its commitment to sustainable materials by securing an exclusive UK agreement to distribute Waterhaul’s Traceable Marine Plastic™.

In this section, we share quick snapshots of key news, innovations, and sustainability updates that could impact materials, supply chains, and the wider market.

PPT

The Plastic Packaging Tax (PPT) raised to £228.28 per tonne on 1st April 2026. Any plastic packaging item that does not contain at least 30% recycled content will be liable to pay.

pEPR

The Producer Responsibility Organisation (PRO) to run pEPR will be appointed in Spring 2026

Deposit Return Scheme (DRS)

Launch date for the Deposit Return Scheme is October 2027. It will collect PET and aluminium beverage containers from 150ml up to 3 litres.

UK Food Contact Legislation

The UK currently relies on legacy pre-Brexit legislation (282/2008), with existing approvals carried over. However, under the SPS agreement with the EU, it is expected that the UK will adopt updated European regulations (2022/2616 and 2022/351), likely aligning rules around recycled polyolefins and novel technologies for food contact applications.
